Arash Adel received the 2023 New Research Award from the Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) at the 2023 ARCC International Conference in Dallas.

Kathy Velikov, Cathryn Dwyre, Chris Perry, and David Salomon (editors), released the new book Ambiguous Territory: Architecture, Landscape and the Postnatural, published by Actar. The book launch will take place at Rizzoli Books, New York on February 1, 2023.

Matias del Campo gave a public lecture at ICD Stuttgart titled “Neural Architecture, Design and Artificial Intelligence,” February 1, 2023.

2022  

Charlie O’Geen and Peter von Bülow, along with collaborators Catherine Page Harris (University of New Mexico, co-founder of Poured Earth Collaborative), Thierry Joffroy (Université Grenoble-Alpes, and president of International Centre for Earth Construction), CRAterre, and McLean Street Sculpture Park, Detroit, received a 2022 Pressing Matters Grants from Taubman College for their project “LImiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions by Eliminating Portland Cement.” Link

Arash Adel, Mania Aghaei Meibodi, Wes McGee, and Alireza Bayramvand presented their papers at the 42nd Annual Conference of the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) 2022, Hybrids & Haecceities at University of Pennsylvania, October 2022. Adel’s paper is titled “Robotic Timber Assembly: A Novel Approach for the Robotic Construction of Non-standard Timber Structures Made from Short Elements.” Meibodi, McGee, and Bayramvand’s paper is titled “Robotic 3D Printing Multilayer Building Envelope.” Former MS-DMT students (Zidek, J., Aman, L., Li, X., and Alhashemi, J.) also presented their paper “Integrative Green Building Envelope: Large Scale Robotic Additive Manufacturing” under the guidance of Mania Aghaei Meibodi. Papers will be made available on the open access platform CumINCad. Arash Adel, Matias del Campo, Tsz Yan Ng, and Kathy Velikov were moderators for paper sessions at the conference.

Tsz Yan Ng delivered the keynote lecture for University of Tennessee’s Manufacturing and Design Innovation Showcase event on October 17, 2022. The talk was titled “The Case for R+D_Research, Design, and Manufacturing.” Link

Tsz Yan Ng delivered the Raneiro Corbelleti Memorial Lecture at the Stuckeman School of Architecture, Pennsylvania State University on August 24, 2022. The talk, titled “The Case for R+D,” is part of the annual, one-week Corbelleti Competition for upper level architecture students. For the competition, Ng developed the competition brief and juried the submissions.   Link

Tsz Yan Ng gave two presentations at the Tilt-Up Future think 3.0 event at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago, hosted by Tilt-Up Concrete Association on May 16, 2022.  The talks are titled “Emergent Labor – revising workforce skills in context to R+D and automation” and “Alternative Forming | Forming Alternatives – innovations in concrete forming.” Link

Tsz Yan Ng presented “Knit Casting – experiments in controlling concrete’s inflation for CNC manufactured knit formwork” at the Digital Concrete 2022 Conference at Loughborough University, June 26-29, 2022. The project is a collaboration with Sean Ahlquist and Evgueni Filipov.

Tsz Yan Ng received the 2022 Emerging Voices Award from The Architectural League of New York. Each year, The Architectural League of New York selects eight emerging practices through a juried, invited portfolio competition. Link
